Panasonic Thermal Management Solutions

Extended range of thermal management products gives many options for a variety of applications

The latest Panasonic thermal protection products feature a range of NASBIS Insulating Sheets, Pyrolytic Graphite Sheets (PGS), Graphite-PAD and Semi-Sealing Material (SSM).

NASBIS Insulating Sheet

NASBIS - Nano Silica Balloon Insulator Sheet - is a thin, flexible heat insulation material composed of silica aerogel and polyester fiber. The thermal conductivity of NASBIS is comparable to that of air, making it ideal for heat insulation. The EYG-Y series of NASBIS Insulating Sheets protects thermally weak products from the effects of heat, and helps to maintain a uniform temperature throughout a device.

When combined in a stack with Panasonic’s Pyrolytic Graphite Sheet (PGS), NASBIS Insulating Sheets enable the direction in which heat is transferred to be controlled.

The NASBIS and PGS product lines complement the broad range of other thermal management products available from Panasonic, which also include:

  • Graphite-PAD
  • Soft PGS Thermal Interface Material (TIM)
  • Semi-Sealing Material (SSM)

NASBIS Datasheet

Features

  • Low Thermal Conductivity: 0.014 – 0.02 W/m · K.
  • Both Thin and Flexible
  • Thicknesses Range from 100µm to 1,000µm
  • RoHS and REACH Compliant

Benefits

  • Easily Bent and Used in Narrow Spaces
  • NASBIS Sheets Are Covered With Polyester (PET) Tape and Offered With Adhesive
  • NASBIS / PGS Composite Stacks Provide Optimal Thermal Management Solutions

Graphite-PAD: EYG-T Series

The EYG-T Series Graphite-PAD is a TIM which offers excellent thermal conductivity in the Z-axis (thickness) direction and provides good flexibility. Its thermal performance is superior to that of most existing TIMs.

The Graphite-PAD product is supplied as sheets composed of PGS filler in silicone resin, in a thickness ranging from 0.5mm to 3.0mm. The combination of materials offers high system reliability in designs with high heat dissipation. The PGS inside the resin is oriented in a vertical direction. This oriented structure provides excellent thermal conductivity through the thickness of the sheet.

The thermal sheet is easily deformable, a property which eases installation.

Soft PGS Material

The EYG-S Soft PGS material is a highly compressible graphite sheet which reduces thermal resistance by conforming to gaps, warpage and distortion in targets or substrates. It is an excellent alternative to thermal grease or phase-change materials, as it is supplied in sheets and so is easier to apply in production processes.

The EYG series PGS graphite sheets are made from a highly oriented, very thin graphite polymer film. They are ideal for thermal management or heat-sinking in limited spaces, or to provide supplemental heat-sinking in addition to conventional methods.

The EYG series material is flexible and can be cut into custom shapes.

  • Ideal for Electrical and Magnetic Field Suppression up to 1000MHzs
  • Conforms to the Shape of Components for Lower Thermal Resistance

Semi-Sealing Material (SSM)

Panasonic also supplies SSM (Semi-Sealing Material), a combination of PGS graphite sheet and thermally conductive elastomer resin. The SSM layer is an elastomer layer that helps to facilitate the spread of heat generated by a PC board. Because it is compressible, this SSM layer fills the voids that are inherently present in any circuit board for greater contact with the heat source(s). Pyrolytic Graphite Sheet (PGS) can be ordered in 10 μm, 17 μm, 40 μm, and 50 μm thicknesses for expanded application coverage. This option is ideal for applications where both electrical isolation and thermal management are required.
