More Information on Power Supplies...
What are Power Supplies?
AC/DC Power Supplies, DC/DC Converters and Wall AdaptorsFuture Electronics is proud to offer a wide range of Power Supply solutions from leading Power Supply manufacturers including Bias Power, Cosel, CUI, DELTA, Mean Well, Minmax, Murata Power, Recom Power, Triad Magnetics, Vicor, Wall Industries and more.
What are Linear and Switching Power Supplies?
There are two main types of regulated power supplies available:A switch-mode power supply (switching-mode power supply or SMPS) is an electronic power supply that uses a switching regulator in order to control the conversion of electrical power in a highly efficient manner. This higher efficiency (thus lower heat dissipation) is the chief advantage of a switched-mode power supply.
A linear regulated power supply, on the other hand, regulates the output voltage by dissipating excess power in Ohmic losses (by use of a resistor or a pass transistor in its active mode). Because a linear regulator regulates either output voltage or current by dissipating the excess electric power in the form of heat, its maximum power efficiency is voltage-out/voltage-in. To function properly, a moderately complex regulator circuit is used to achieve low load and ensure line regulation. Another benefit is linear regulated power supplies also have very little ripple and very little output noise (also known as EMI and RFI).
In short, switching regulators are used as replacements for the linear regulators when higher efficiency, smaller size or lighter weight is required. They are, however, more complicated, as their switching currents can cause electrical noise problems if not carefully suppressed, and simple designs may have a poor power factor. Generally more costly, SMPS justify their cost based on performance a, reliability and size when compared with similarly related Linear Power Supplies.DC/DC Converters
A DC-to-DC converter is a class of power supply which converts a source of direct current (DC) from one voltage level to another. They can essentially step-up, step-down or invert a DC voltage.
DC to DC converters are important in portable electronic devices such as cellular phones and laptop computers, which are supplied with power primarily from batteries. Portable devices often contain several sub-circuits, each with its own voltage level requirement, different from that supplied by a battery or an external supply. A DC to DC converter offers a method to increase voltage from a partially lowered battery voltage, thereby saving space instead of using multiple batteries to accomplish the same thing.Wall Adaptors Power Supply
Future Electronics offers a wide range of Wall Adapters. We offer a wide selection of CUI and Mean Well AC/DC adapters. An adapter is a portable external power supply that is often enclosed. Other names include plug pack, plug-in adapter, adapter block, domestic mains adapter, line power adapter, or power adapter. Informal terms include wall wart, wall cube and power brick.
External power supplies are used both with equipment with no other source of power, and with battery-powered equipment, where the supply both charges the battery and powers the equipment when plugged in. One of the benefits of using an external, rather than internal power supply is it increases the portability of a device, by avoiding the need of internal power components.
Choosing the Right Power Supply
When you do a search for Power Supplies on our website, no matter if you need a DC/DC Converter, AD/DC Switching Power Supply (open frame or enclosed) or a Wall Adapter, we offer a wide selection of products including choices of a 12VDC power supply or 24VDC power supply.Best of all, when you are looking for the right power supply for your application, you can filter the results by various attributes: by Type ( adapter, charger, open frame, enclosed), by number of outputs (dual, five, quad), by output power (1W, 10W, 50W, 75W, 100W, 300W), by output voltage (5V, 12 V, 15 V, 48 V) or by input voltage (85 to 132 V, 85 to 256 V, 100 to 250 V, 100 to 264 V).
Applications for Power Supply
One of the great things about our product offering is that we can support your needs by the technology you are working on. Whether it is for a special need for a Medical Power Supply or just a generic Universal Input Power Supply, we probably have a power supply solution for you. Other power supply applications and uses include: low noise amplifiers, signal processing, data acquisition - including sensors, automatic test equipment, laboratory test equipment, control circuits. In short, Future Electronics has the right power supply solution for you.
