More Information on Varistor MOV MLV...
What is a Varistor?
A varistor is a resistor with the characteristic of having a very non-ohmic current-voltage. Varistors generally act as a spark gap and are used for protecting circuits from excessive voltage. A metal oxide varistor, or MOV, is the most common type of varistor and contains a mass of zinc oxide grains that are in a matrix of other metal oxides and sandwiched between two metal plates, acting as the electrodes. A multilayer varistor, or MLV, provides electronic circuits with an electrostatic discharge protection.
Types of MOV & MLV Varistors
There are many different kinds of MOV & MLV varistors and at Future Electronics we stock many of the most common types categorized by Rated Voltage, Maximum Clamping Voltage, Capacitance, Peak Output Current, Packaging type and Maximum RMS Voltage.
