Diodes

What is a Diode?

A diode is an electronic component with two terminals and an asymmetric transfer characteristic. It has a low resistance to current flow in one direction and a high resistance to current flow in the other direction. A semiconductor diode is a crystalline piece of semiconductor material containing a p-n junction that is connected to two electrical terminals. Diodes allow an electric current to pass in the forward direction, while blocking electric current in the reverse direction. This unidirectional behaviour is called rectification and is used in order to convert AC current to DC current. Semiconductor diodes begin conducting electricity when a certain threshold voltage is applied in the forward direction.

Types of Diodes

There are several different kinds of diodes at Future Electronics. We stock many of the most common types categorized by several parameters including maximum reverse recovery time, maximum reverse current, maximum average rectified current, forward voltage, maximum reverse voltage, power dissipation, maximum average forward current, maximum peak current and packaging type, among others. Our parametric filters will allow you to refine your search results according to the required specifications.

Diodes from Future Electronics

Future Electronics has a wide range of programmable diodes from several manufacturers. Once you decide if you need Bridge Rectifiers, Current Limiting Diodes, Fast Rectifiers, Schottky Diodes, Schottky Rectifiers, Small Signal Diodes, Standard Rectifiers, Switching Diodes, Tuning / Varactor Diodes, Ultrafast Rectifiers or Zener Diodes, you will be able to choose from their technical attributes and your search results will be narrowed to match your specific diode application needs.

Applications for Diodes:

The nonlinear current–voltage characteristic of semiconductor diodes can be modified by varying and modifying the semiconductor materials. Zener diodes are used to regulate voltage. Tuning / varactor diodes are used to electronically tune radio and TV receivers. Other diodes can be used to protect circuits from high voltage surges, generate radio frequency oscillations or produce light. Diodes can be found in a wide range of applications including radio demodulation, power conversion, logic gates, ionizing radiation detectors, temperature measurement and current steering.

Choosing the Right Diode:

With the FutureElectronics.com parametric search, when looking for the right diodes, you can filter the results by category. We carry the following categories of diodes:

  • Bridge Rectifiers
  • Current Limiting Diodes
  • Fast Rectifiers
  • Schottky Diodes
  • Schottky Rectifiers
  • Small Signal Diodes
  • Standard Rectifiers
  • Switching Diodes
  • Tuning/Varactor
  • Ultrafast Rectifiers
  • Zener Diodes

Once you choose the diode category, you can narrow them down by various attributes: by maximum reverse current, maximum average rectified current, forward voltage, maximum reverse voltage and maximum peak current, to name a few. You will be able to find the right Current Limiting Diodes, Standard Rectifiers, Switching Diodes, Fast Rectifiers, Schottky Diodes, Bridge Rectifiers, Schottky Rectifiers, Small Signal Diodes, Zener Diodes, Tuning / Varactor Diodes or Ultrafast Rectifiers using these filters.

Diodes in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities

If the quantity of diodes you require is less than a full reel, we offer to our customers several of our diodes in tray, tube or individual quantities that will help you avoid unneeded surplus.

Future Electronics also offers its clients a unique bonded inventory program designed to eliminate potential problems that may arise from an unpredictable supply of products that could contain raw metals and products with erratic or long lead times.
