New STM32 Discovery Kit Offers Complete Platform for Development of Digital Power Systems
The new STMicroelectronics STM32 Discovery Kit (B-G474E-DPOW1) is a complete digital-power platform containing a 32-bit STM32G474 microcontroller, a buck-boost converter with on-board resistive loads, a high-brightness RGB LED controller for lighting-power designs, user LEDs and buttons, flexible power and data connections, and debugging support.
The kit provides a ready-made platform on which designers can explore the features of the STMicro STM32G474 MCU that enable the implementation of high-performance digital-power systems. These include a Filter-Math Accelerator (FMAC) to handle functions such as 3p/3z compensation and to ensure high efficiency across the load range. It can also perform digital slope compensation, freeing CPU cycles for other functions.
The STM32G474xB/xC/xE microcontrollers are based on the Arm® Cortex®-M4 RISC core operating at a frequency of up to 170MHz. The Cortex-M4 core features a single-precision floating-point unit which supports all the Arm single-precision data-processing instructions and all the data types. It also implements a full set of DSP instructions, and a memory protection unit for enhanced security.
High-speed memory provision comes in the form of 512kbytes of Flash and 128kbytes of SRAM. The STM32G474 also features a Quad SPI interface to external Flash memory. It includes several protection mechanisms for its embedded Flash memory and SRAM:
- Read-out protection
- Write protection
- Securable memory area
- Proprietary code read-out protection
The STMicroelectronics STM32G474 offers a rich set of analog features, including five fast 12-bit ADCs, seven comparators, six operational amplifiers, seven DAC channels, an internal voltage reference buffer, a low-power real-time clock, and multiple high-resolution timers.
