In this video, we’ll be looking at the features and benefits of Infineon’s 3D Magnetic Sensor.

I’ll share with you:

    1. Why Infineon’s 3D Magnetic Sensor is the perfect solution for low current consumption and cost-optimized designs in Consumer and Automotive applications.

    2. Why Infineon’s 3D Sensor family is ideally suited for the measurement of three-dimensional movement within a magnetic field, linear slide movement, and 360-degree angle rotation.

    3. And why the 3D Sensor is the perfect fit for Industrial applications.

The TLE493D & TLV493D 3D magnetic sensor families feature highly accurate three-dimensional sensing with extremely low power consumption in a small 6-pin TSOP package. Magnetic field detection in x, y, and z direction allow the sensor to reliably measure three-dimensional, linear and rotational movements. The implemented digital I²C interface enables fast and bi-directional communication between sensor and microcontroller.

Currently, up to three magnetic sensors are needed to measure tampering attempts with large magnets – one for each dimension of the external magnetic field. With the TLV493D sensor, this can be reduced to 1 IC, making e-meters smaller and more energy efficient.

The TLV493D-A1B6 3D sensor detects all three dimensions of a magnetic field. Using lateral Hall plates for the z direction and vertical Hall plates for the x and y direction, the sensor can be used in a large magnetic field range of around 15 milli Tesla for all three dimensions. This enables the measuring and covering of a long magnet movement. The large operation scale also makes the magnet circuit design easy, robust and flexible.

The TLV493D-A1B6 provides 12-bit data resolution for each measurement direction. This allows a high data resolution of 0.098mT per bit (LSB) so that even the smallest magnet movements can be measured.

The flexibility of Infineon’s 3D Sensors makes them the perfect fit for applications in the Automotive, Consumer and Industrial markets. Examples of these applications in commercial or industrial use are:

    Joysticks
    E-meters, anti- tampering

Control Elements And are used for automotive in:

Control elements in infotainment and navigation systems, air conditioning, multifunctional steering wheels, or light switches
    Top column modules
    And gear stick positioning sensing

Infineon also supports these great products with great tools, like the Magnetic Design Tool, which can be found on Infineon’s website. For each of the three applications, the tool provides pre-defined or user-customized magnets and automatically calculates the three magnetic field components at the sensor location.

The S2Go_3DSense_TLV493D Evaluation board offers a unique customer and evaluation experience. The boards are equipped with one TLV493D-A1B6 magnetic sensor and come with a ready-to-use Arduino library. Customers can now develop their own system solutions by combining 2Go boards together with Infineon MyIoT adapters.

Infineon delivers a full ecosystem to help Engineers design, develop and implement 3D Magnetic Sensors in a multitude of applications.
