Common Mode Chokes

What is a Common Mode Choke?

Common mode chokes are used in order to filter common mode electromagnetic interference (EMI) currents without de-rating under high currents and without causing signal degradation. Common mode chokes are applied to supply and return pairs of conductors and are ideal for EMI filtering of signal and power lines. Common mode chokes can withstand high DC currents without filtering performance degradation, which is an issue that can happen with differential mode filters such as small chip beads.

Types of Ferrite Beads

There are many different kinds of common mode chokes and at Future Electronics we stock many of the most common types categorized by case size / dimension, impedance, rated current, maximum DC resistance, packaging type and rated voltage. The parametric filters on our website can help refine your search results depending on the required specifications.

The most common sizes for rated voltage are 50 V, 250 V and 500 V. We also carry common mode chokes with rated voltage as high as 250 kV. Rated current can be between 0.4 mA and 23 A, with the most frequent common mode chokes having a rated current of 500 mA, 1A or 2 A.

Common Mode Chokes from Future Electronics

Future Electronics has a full selection of common mode choke filters and coils from several manufacturers that can be used to design a USB common mode choke, 3 (three) phase common mode choke, surface mount (SMD) common mode choke, high current common mode choke, Ethernet common mode choke, CAN bus common mode choke or for any application that might require a common mode choke filter or common mode choke coil. Simply choose from the common mode choke technical attributes below and your search results will quickly be narrowed to match your specific common mode choke application needs.

If you have a preferred brand, we deal with several manufacturers such as Murata, TDK, Epcos or Panasonic Industrial Devices, among other manufacturers. You can easily refine your common mode choke product search results by clicking your preferred common mode choke brand below from our list of manufacturers.

Applications for Common Mode Chokes:

Common Mode Chokes can be used in several industrial, electronic and telecommunication applications including:

  • Automotive applications (ex: CAN bus)
  • Suppression of radiation noise in electronic devices
  • Countering common mode noise affecting signals in high-speed lines
  • USB line for PCs and peripheral equipment.
  • IEEE1394 lines for PCs
  • Panel link lines for LCD panels

Choosing the Right Common Mode Choke:

When you are looking for the right common mode chokes, with the FutureElectronics.com parametric search, you can filter the results by various attributes: by Impedance (67 Ω, 90 Ω, 1 kΩ, 10 kΩ, …), Rated Current (0.4 mA, 500 mA, 1 A, 2 A,…) and Rated Voltage (up to 250 kV) to name a few. You will be able to find the right common mode choke coils and filters that can be used to design a high current common mode choke, 3 (three) phase common mode choke, USB common mode choke, surface mount (SMD) common mode choke, CAN bus common mode choke, Ethernet common mode choke or for any circuit that might require a common mode choke filter or coil.

Common Mode Chokes in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities

If the quantity of common mode chokes required is less than a full reel, we offer customers many of our common mode choke products in tube, tray or individual quantities that will avoid unneeded surplus. In addition, Future Electronics offers clients a unique bonded inventory program that is designed to eliminate potential problems that may arise from an unpredictable supply of products containing raw metals and products with erratic or long lead times.
