Microchip MCP998x Automotive Multi-Channel Temperature Sensor Family
Digital remote temperature monitoring at its best
Microchip offers the MCP998x family of automotive digital temperature sensors to help meet the thermal management requirements of various relevant designs. The device provides 10 new devices with 1°C accuracy for monitoring up to five channels and includes shutdown options that cannot be overwritten by software.
With the MCP998x family release, Microchip launched 10 new devices that can measure 2, 3, 4 and 5 temperature channels, becoming one of the largest suppliers of AEC-Q100 multichannel temperature sensors. There are several applications that can take advantage of measuring thermal packed close together including HVAC, infotainment and ADAS. The MCP998x marries the core competencies of Microchip with the stringent quality required for AEC-Q100 grade 1 to meet many automotive application requirements.
In addition, half of the MCP998x family of devices includes resistor setpoints that ensure alerts occur associated with any overheating events.
Microchip’s MCP998x has added resistor setpoints for thermal shutdown programming. By implementing a resistor driven setpoint, the MCP998xD devices cannot have their critical shutdown temperatures manipulated by software updates.

EV23P16A Evaluation Board for MCP998X
MCP9984 Evaluation Board User’s Guide | The EV23P16A is an evaluation board designed to demonstrate the features of the MCP998X ±1.0°C accurate, multichannel, automotive temperature sensor family. The EV23P16A comes with the MCP9984-A version which features the SMBus address decode functionality. The address decode feature allows the device to change SMBus client address upon power-up based on a pull-up resistor connected to the THERM/ADDR pin. This EVB utilizes the Thermal Management Utility to easily communicate with the device and log temperature readings using a computer. |
