More Information on UARTs...
What is a UART?
A UART, or Universal Asynchronous Receiver / Transmitter, is a piece of computer hardware that translates data between parallel and serial forms. It is an integrated circuit used for serial communications that contains a receiver (serial-to-parallel converter) and a transmitter (parallel-to-serial converter), each clocked separately. The parallel side of a UART is often connected to the bus of a computer. When the computer writes a byte to the transmit data register of a UART, the UART will start to transmit it on the serial line. UARTs are often used with communication standards such as EIA, RS-422, RS-232 or RS-485. The universal designation indicates that the transmission speeds and data format are configurable and that the electric signalling levels and methods are typically handled by a special driver circuit that is external to the UART.
UARTs are often included in microcontrollers. A dual UART (DUART) combines two UARTs into a single chip. Several modern integrated circuits now come with a UART that can also communicate synchronously. Such a device is called a USART (universal synchronous / asynchronous receiver / transmitter).
Types of UARTs
There are several different kinds of UARTs at Future Electronics. We stock many of the most common types categorized by several parameters including data rate, number of functions, interface circuit type, packaging type and supply voltage. Our parametric filters will allow you to refine your search results according to the required specifications.
The most common sizes for data Rate are 230.4 kbps, 1 Mbps, 1.5 Mbps, 5 Mbps, 6.25 Mbps and 16 Mbps. We also carry UARTs with data rates up to 25 Mbps. The most common interface circuit types are parallel and serial. UARTs From Future Electronics
Future Electronics has a wide range of UART and USART devices, including single UARTs, DUARTs, quad UARTs and octal UARTs from several manufacturers. Simply choose from the UART technical attributes below and your search results will quickly be narrowed to match your specific universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter needs.
We deal with several manufacturers such as Maxlinear, NXP, Microchip, Renesas, Diodes and FTDI Chip. You can easily refine your UART product search results by clicking your preferred UART brand from the list of manufacturers below.
Applications for UARTs:
Universal Asynchronous Receiver / Transmitters are commonly included in microcontrollers and are designed to be used for several applications. UARTs are used for devices including GPS units, modems, wireless communication and Bluetooth modules, amongst many other applications.
Choosing the Right UART:
When you are looking for the right UART, with the FutureElectronics.com parametric search, you can filter the results by various attributes: by Data Rate (230.4 kbps, 1 Mbps, 1.5 Mbps, 5 Mbps, 6.25 Mbps, 16 Mbps,…), interface circuit type (serial, parallel,…), number of functions (from 1 to 8 functions), and supply voltage (up to 5.5V) to name a few. You will be able to find the right UART and USART for your programming needs using these filters.
UARTs in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities
If the quantity of UARTs required is less than a full reel, we offer to our customers many of our universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter products in tube, tray or individual quantities that will avoid unneeded surplus.
