More Information on Dual Port RAM...

What is Dual Port RAM?

Dual port RAM can read and write different memory cells simultaneously at different addresses. This is the main difference between dual port RAM and single port RAM, as single port RAM can only be accessed at one address at a time. Therefore, single port RAM allows only one memory cell to be read/write during each clock cycle. Also, single port RAM uses a 6 transistor basic ram cell, whereas a dual port ram cell uses an 8 transistor cell for memory. This means that the area of a single port RAM cell is smaller than the area of a dual port RAM cell.

Types of Dual Ports

There are several different kinds of dual ports. At Future Electronics we stock many of the most common types categorized by memory density, operating mode, memory organization, maximum access time, packaging type and nominal supply voltage. The parametric filters on our website can help refine your search results depending on the required specifications.

The most common sizes for memory density are 64 kb, 128 kb, 512 kb and 1Mb. We also carry dual ports with memory density up to 18 Mb. Nominal supply voltage can be up to 5.5 V, with the most common sizes being 3.2 V and 5 V.

Dual Ports from Future Electronics

Future Electronics has a complete selection of dual ports from several manufacturers that can be used as dual ported memories, dual port SRAM or dual port SDRAM. Simply choose from the dual port technical attributes below and your search results will quickly be narrowed in order to match your specific dual port application needs. We deal with Cypress (End of Life) and IDT as a dual port manufacturers.

Applications for Dual Ports:

Video RAM, also known as VRAM, is a type of dual ported dynamic RAM (DRAM) that is used for video memory. VRAM allows a computer CPU to draw the image at the same time that the video hardware is reading it out to the screen. Other types of dual port RAM are based on static RAM (SRAM). Most computer CPUs implement their processor registers as a dual ported or multi ported RAM.

Choosing the Right Dual Port:

When you are looking for the right dual ports, you can filter the results by various attributes with the FutureElectronics.com parametric search: by Memory Density (8 kb, 64 kb, 128 kb, 512 kb, …), Nominal Supply Voltage (up to 5.5 V) and Maximum Access Time (from 3.3 ns to 65 ns) to name a few. You will be able to find the right dual ported memories, dual port SDRAM or dual port SRAM chip for any of your circuits.

Dual Ports in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities

If the quantity of dual ports required is less than a full reel, we offer to customers many of our dual port products in tube, tray or individual quantities that will help you avoid unneeded surplus.

In addition, Future Electronics offers its clients a unique bonded inventory program designed to eliminate potential problems that could arise from an unpredictable supply of products containing raw metals and products with long or erratic lead times.
