More information on Inductors

What is an Inductor?

Inductors are passive electrical components with two terminals that store energy in their magnetic field. All conductors have a certain amount of inductance because there is a current to be opposed. Inductors are designed in order to create this inductance, which is a magnetic field produced by changing the current running through a medium. By wrapping a wire around itself into a coil, the current required in order to produce a magnetic field of a certain power is reduced accordingly. Inductors are generally wrapped around a core material to increase inductance. Iron is the most common core material used for inductors.

Types of Inductors

There are several different kinds of inductors at Future Electronics. We stock many of the most common types categorized by several parameters including DC Resistance, Nominal Inductance, Tolerance, Maximum Rated Current, Case Size/Dimension, Packaging Type and other parameters specific to each type of inductor. Our parametric filters will allow you to refine your search results according to the required specifications.

Inductors from Future Electronics

Future Electronics has a wide range of inductors from several manufacturers. Once you decide if you need Multilayer Inductors, Power Inductors, RF Inductors, Toroid Inductors or Wirewound Inductors, you will be able to choose from their technical attributes and your search results will be narrowed to match your specific inductor application needs.

We deal with several manufacturers such as Cooper Bussmann, Delevan, Epcos, Sumida Electronics, NIC Components, Murata, Panasonic Industrial Devices, TDK and Vishay, among others. You can easily refine your inductor product search results by clicking your preferred inductor brand from the list of manufacturers below.

Applications for Inductors:

Inductors are often found in analog circuits and signal processing applications. When used with capacitors, they can form tuned circuits that can emphasize or filter out specific signal frequencies. Large inductors can be found in power supplies. Smaller inductors can be used in radio reception and broadcasting applications. When using two or several inductors together, they can form a transformer as the ones used in every electric utility power grid. Inductors are also used in electrical transmission systems.

Choosing the Right Inductor:

With the FutureElectronics.com parametric search, when looking for the right inductors, you can filter the results by category. We carry the following categories of inductors:
  • Multilayer Inductors
  • Power Inductors
  • RF Inductors
  • Toroid Inductors
  • Wirewound Inductors
Once you choose the inductor category, you can narrow them down by various attributes: by Nominal Inductance, Tolerance, DC Resistance, Case Size/Dimension and Maximum Rated Current, to name a few. You will be able to find the right Multilayer, Power, RF, Toroid or Wirewound Inductors by using these filters.

Inductors in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities

If the quantity of inductors you require is less than a full reel, we offer to our customers several of our inductors in tray, tube or individual quantities that will help you avoid unneeded surplus.

Future Electronics also offers its clients a unique bonded inventory program designed to eliminate potential problems that may arise from an unpredictable supply of products that could contain raw metals and products with erratic or long lead times. Talk with your nearest Future Electronics branch and find out more on how you and your company can avoid possible shortages.
