More Information on Flash Memory
What is Flash Memory?
Flash memory is a type of electronically erasable programmable read only memory. It is a computer memory chip which keeps data stored without needing a power source. Flash memory has an advantage over EEPROM memory because EEPROM erases its data one byte at a time, which makes it slow to update. Flash memory, however, has the ability to erase its data in entire blocks. This makes flash memory more suitable for applications requiring repeated data updating, such as in memory sticks. Information is stored in cells inside flash memory chips, where a floating-gate transistor protects data in each cell. Flash memory gets its name because the memory chip is designed so that a section of the memory cells is erased in a single action or "in a flash", and therefore the cell is cleared of its contents so that data can be rewritten onto it.
Types of Flash Memory
There are several different kinds of flash memory chips at Future Electronics. We stock many of the most common types categorized by several parameters including memory density, memory organization, nominal supply voltage, maximum access time, maximum clock frequency, temperature grade and packaging type. Our parametric filters will allow you to refine your search results according to the required specifications.
Flash Memory from Future Electronics
Future Electronics has a wide range of programmable flash memories from several chip manufacturers that can be used for a flash memory card, USB flash memory, compact flash memory, computer flash memory, flash memory drives or for programming any other type of flash memory storage. Once you decide if you need compact flash memory, NAND drive memory, NOR parallel memory or NOR serial memory, you will be able to choose from their technical attributes and your search results will be narrowed to match your specific flash memory application needs.
We deal with several manufacturers such as Centon Electronics Inc, Cypress,Spansion, Greenliant, SST, Macronix, Kingston or Microchip, among other manufacturers. You can easily refine your flash memory product search results by clicking your preferred flash memory brand from the list of manufacturers below.
Applications for Flash Memory:
Flash memory can be found in portable electronics like smart phones, digital music devices, digital cameras and removable storage devices. Flash technology is also often present in computer BIOS, PCMCIA cards, video game cards and modems. Another application is as a replacement for hard disks and is attractive when speed, noise, power consumption and/or reliability are an issue. Serial flash is a small and low power memory which uses a serial interface for sequential data access. Serial flash memory, when incorporated into an embedded system, requires, on the PCB, fewer wires than parallel flash memories. This allows a reduction in power consumption as well as board space, and therefore a reduction of total system cost.
Choosing the Right Flash Memory:
With the FutureElectronics.com parametric search, when looking for the right flash memories, you can filter the results by category. We carry the following categories of flash memories:
- Compact flash memory
- NAND drive memory
- NOR parallel memory
- NOR serial memory
Once you choose the flash memory category, you can narrow them down by various attributes: by maximum access time, nominal supply voltage, maximum clock frequency and temperature grade to name a few. You will be able to find the right flash memory chip for a USB flash memory, flash memory card, compact flash memory, flash memory drives, computer flash memory or for programming other types of flash memory storage.
Flash Memory in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities
If the quantity of flash memories you require is less than a full reel, we offer to our customers several of our programmable flash memories in tray, tube or individual quantities that will help you avoid unneeded surplus.
In addition, Future Electronics offers clients a unique bonded inventory program that is designed to eliminate potential problems that could arise from an unpredictable supply of products containing raw metals and products with long or erratic lead times.
