Power Integrations InnoSwitch™3 Flyback Switcher ICs

With integrated high-voltage switch, synchronous rectification and FluxLink feedback

The Power Integrations InnoSwitch Family of ICs combines primary, secondary and feedback circuits in a single surface-mounted off-line flyback switcher IC. The InnoSwitch IC incorporates a high-voltage primary-side switch, the primary-side controller, a secondary-side controller for synchronous rectification and an innovative new FluxLink technology that eliminates the need for an optocoupler.

 


InnoSwitch3-CP Family

InnoSwitch3-CP family of ICs by Power Integrations incorporate multiple protection features including line over and undervoltage protection, output overvoltage and over-current limiting, and over-temperature shutdown. These switcher ICs are available to support the common combinations of latching and auto-restart behaviors required by applications such as quick charge and USB PD designs. The integrated circuits are available with and without cable-drop compensation.

Development Kit

RDK-659

30 W Power Supply for AC Wall Outlet with USB Ports30 W output (selectable 5.1 V / 6 A or 9.2 V / 3.3 A or 15.3 V / 2 A) rail is designed for a high power USB charging with Type-A or Type-C ports. The output utilizes INN3268C from the InnoSwitch3-CP family of ICs.

This design shows high power density and efficiency that is possible due to the high level of integration of the InnoSwitch3-CP controller providing exceptional performance.

The key design goals for this high-line input flyback converter are high power density, high efficiency, low no load consumption, and best in class thermal performance. This is intended for wall outlet USB chargers.


InnoSwitch3-EP Family

Designing and manufacturing of flyback power converters is simplified thanks to the InnoSwitch™3-EP family of ICs. For applications requiring high efficiency and/or compact size such as auxiliary, utility meters, smart grid and industrial power supplies, the InnoSwitch3-EP family combines primary and secondary controllers and safety-rated feedback into a single IC. InnoSwitch3-EP family switcher ICs incorporate multiple protection features with available standard and peak power delivery options, in addition to commonly used auto-restart protection behaviors.

InnoSwitch3-Pro Family

The InnoSwitch™3-Pro series family of ICs dramatically simplifies the development and manufacturing of fully programmable, highly efficient power supplies, particularly those in compact enclosures. The universal I2C interface enables dynamic control of output voltage and current along with many configurable features. Telemetry provides reporting of programmed features and fault modes.

InnoSwitch3-AQ

The InnoSwitch3-AQ family of ICs dramatically simplifies the design and manufacture of flyback power converters, particularly those requiring high efficiency and/or compact size. The InnoSwitch3-AQ family combines primary and secondary controllers and safety-rated feedback into a single IC allowing accurate output voltage regulation even with wide input voltage range of 30 VDC to 925 VDC.

InnoSwitch3-AQ family devices incorporate multiple protection features including line over and undervoltage protection, output overvoltage and over-current limiting, and over-temperature shutdown for automotive applications. Devices are available with standard and peak power delivery options, and commonly used auto-restart protection behaviors.

Devices are available that support the common combinations of latching and auto-restart behaviors required by applications such as chargers, adapters, consumer electronics and industrial systems. InnoSwitch3-MX

This version of InnoSwitch3 is intended to be used with InnoMux for multiple output, single-stage power supplies for monitors and TVs. This enables very high system efficiency on a small PCB foot print.

The InnoSwitch3-MX dramatically simplifies the development and manufacturing of multiple output power supplies, particularly those in compact enclosures or with high efficiency requirements. The InnoSwitch3-MX architecture is revolutionary in that the devices incorporate both primary and secondary controllers, with sense elements and a safety-rated feedback mechanism into a single IC.

Close component proximity and innovative use of the integrated communication link, FluxLink, permit accurate control of a secondary-side synchronous rectification MOSFET with Quasi-Resonant switching of primary integrated high-voltage switch to maintain high efficiency across the entire load range.
