FTM / Security & Encryption / TE Connectivity — OSFP Connectors
The Octal Small Form Factor Pluggable (OSFP) connectors, cages, and cable assemblies for telecoms and networking equipment from TE Connectivity (TE) support aggregate data rates of up to 800 Gbits/s. Future upgrades will make the connectors compliant with the specifications of the 112G PAM-4 pulse amplitude modulation protocol.
The OSFP portfolio works with both 28 Gbits/s non-return to zero (NRZ) modulation and 56 Gbits/s PAM-4 protocols. The integrated heat-sink technology in the OSFP plugs ensures the conditions that are needed to support these high data rates for 15 W loads with low airflow.
The OSFP products from TE also offer high port density. Up to 32 ports of an eight-lane interface can fit in one rack unit, meeting the requirements of current and next-generation silicon roadmaps.
The OSFP surface-mount connector has a 0.6 mm pitch which supports a high port density. The simple, low-cost wafer design has a total of 60 contacts over two rows.
Cages are available in 1×1 and 1×4 configurations to support single- and multi-port applications, with the option to provide one, two or four light pipes per port. The low-cost stainless-steel cages use tuned airflow venting to cool the modules and make optimal use of airflow in the system.
The TE OSFP cable assembly modules allow airflow through the module shell: this cools downstream electronics in front-to-back airflow systems or acts as an exhaust for back-to-front airflows. The cables include:
