FTM / Power & Power Management / Panasonic — POSCAP Polymer Tantalum Capacitors
Panasonic has added 49 new parts to its POSCAP™ family of polymer tantalum capacitors, making it easier for manufacturers to order a replacement for other suppliers’ parts which are suffering from shortages or long lead times. The new parts are compatible with widely used parts from competing suppliers, and are more readily available to buy than average in today’s market for capacitors.
The demand for polymer tantalum capacitors has seen a sharp increase from manufacturers of equipment for computing infrastructure such as data centers, servers, base stations, network switches, and routers. This is driven in part by the shift of workers from offices to home because of restrictions applied by governments to combat the spread of Covid-19 infection.
The increased demand for polymer tantalum capacitors has led to lengthening lead times for many competing suppliers’ products. The broad range of available POSCAP products gives OEMs a way to secure sources of polymer tantalum capacitors for volume production.
The POSCAP products are ideal for use in power systems which supply components such as CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs and ASICs. They are also widely used in smart meters, SSD and HDD storage devices, and embedded computing boards.
The POSCAP conductive polymer tantalum solid capacitor product line supports a broad range of operating parameters, and capacitance values between 10 µF and 680 µF, through the TPB, TPC, TPE, TPF, TPS, and TQC series of products.
POSCAP capacitors use sintered tantalum as an anode system and highly conductive polymer, created by a unique Panasonic method, as a cathode system. This unique approach to manufacturing capacitors makes the POSCAP products thin and small, with low ESR and superior high-frequency characteristics.
These features make the POSCAP family ideal for digital and high-frequency applications. POSCAP capacitors also offer high reliability and heat resistance.
