FTM / Motor Control / Monolithic Power Systems — MP6612 H-Bridge Motor Driver IC
Monolithic Power Systems has launched the MP6612, an H-bridge motor driver IC which can drive one dc motor, one stepper motor winding, and other loads.
The MP6612 provides a highly integrated solution for driving reversible motors. The device consists of four N-channel power MOSFETs and an internal charge pump which generates the gate driver voltages, alongside an internal current-sense function. The MP6612, which is supplied in a TSSOP-20 package with an exposed thermal pad, requires a minimal number of readily available external components.
The outputs are controlled via the IN1 and IN2 pins. The device operates from a motor power-supply voltage ranging from 4 V to 45 V, and can supply up to 5 A of output current as specified by the control logic. The device draws a low standby current when disabled.
The internal current-sense circuit provides an output voltage which is proportional to the load current. The driver implements cycle-by-cycle current regulation and limiting. These features do not require the use of a shunt resistor.
Internal circuit protection functions include over-current protection, over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout protection, and over-temperature protection.
