Vishay Power Metal Strip Resistors

Four-terminal current-sense resistors provide higher measurement accuracy

Power Metal Strip® current-sense resistors from Vishay offer substantial advantages over competing thick-film, thin-film and commercial-foil resistors.

Benefiting from an all-welded construction, the Power Metal Strip resistors are ideal for all types of current-sensing, voltage-division and pulse applications. Excellent sulfur resistance makes them suitable for use in high-sulfur atmospheres.

The four-terminal Power Metal Strip resistors separate the current path from the sensing point: this reduces measurement error caused by contact resistance, and improves measurement accuracy.

This feature also reduces the amount of copper in the circuit, cutting the devices’ variation in resistance over temperature. This results in excellent performance in high-temperature applications. Compared to thick-film resistors, the Vishay Power Metal Strip resistors offer superior temperature stability of as little as 35 ppm/°C, and better temperature de-rating, while they provide higher power ratings than thin-film types and are less affected by solder-joint stress. They are also not sensitive to ESD.

The Power Metal Strip resistor design is superior to commercial-foil resistor designs, offering better pulse performance and lower resistance values.
