GCT ionex® Charging Connectors

Reduced pin count cuts cost of USB Type-C connectors for charging applications

The new ionex® receptacles from GCT provide a cost-effective way to replace a micro-USB receptacle with the latest USB Type-C® interface in applications in which the primary function is charging.

GCT has reduced the number of pins in the USB Type-C connector from a standard 24 to either 6 or 16, which enables the ionex products to provide the high-speed charging capabilities expected of a Type-C connection, but at a reduced cost.

The 6-pin ionex USB Type-C connectors supply an output current of 3A and are suitable for charging-only connections. These USB Type-C connectors are available in a horizontal surface-mount format with a profile of 3.16mm, or a low-profile vertical surface-mount receptacle with a height of 6.5mm.

The 16-pin ionex connectors support USB 2.0 connectivity as well as charging at 5A or 3A. A choice of horizontal or vertical surface-mount or through-hole styles is available.
