Four-quadrant photodetectors for automotive IR sensing applications

The K857PH and K857PE from Vishay offer broad sensitivity over the near infrared spectrum. Separation of the sensitive top surface into four quadrants enables zoned presence detection.

The K857PH and K857PE from Vishay are four-quadrant infrared photodetectors housed in a  surface-mount package measuring 4.72 mm x 4.72 mm x 0.75 mm. Each quadrant’s photodiode has an active area of 1.6 mm2

These AEC-Q101 automotive qualified devices are suitable for use in presence detection applications, such as cabin monitoring systems and driver monitoring systems, in gesture recognition applications, and other systems which require high sensitivity to IR light.

The two infrared photodetectors are functionally similar, but the K857PH is based on homogeneous technology, while the K857PE is based on epitaxial technology.
