Digital signal controllers provide fast and robust platform for motor-control applications

The dsPIC33CK family of DSCs from Microchip combines DSP and microcontroller functions in a single chip, to enable fast, precise control of a broad set of motor types.

The Microchip dsPIC33CK1024MP710 family of digital signal controllers (DSCs) provides an ideal combination of high digital signal processor (DSP) performance and a microcontroller-like peripheral set for use in motor-control applications that require high performance and robustness.

The dsPIC33CK DSCs feature a single 100 MHz dsPIC® DSC core with integrated DSP and enhanced on-chip peripherals. They are ideal for the control of many types of motors, including brushless dc, permanent magnet synchronous motors, ac induction, switched reluctance, and stepper motors, producing precision motor-control systems that are more energy efficient and quieter in operation, and provide extended motor life.

The high level of peripheral integration in the dsPIC33CK DSCs enables applications to implement power factor correction (PFC) and motor control with a single chip. Loaded with intelligent analogue peripherals, these DSCs also provide easy-to-use smart sensor interfaces for various sensing applications.

The dsPIC33CK DSCs’ DSP engine has sufficient performance to enable the high-speed execution of control loops. The device also includes a rich set of CodeGuard security features, to provide capabilities including:

  • Secure boot
  • Secure firmware upgrade
  • Secure communication
  • Node authentication

The dsPIC33CK product family has many features which help simplify functional safety certifications for ASIL-B and ASIL-C applications. Developed in accordance with the standard ISO 26262 process for ensuring functional safety, the dsPIC33CK family DSCs are ISO26262-compliant. The dsPIC33CK product family has many hardware features that help simplify the achievement of functional safety certification for ASIL-B and SIL-2 automotive and industrial safety-critical applications. The family offers ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 functional safety packages which contain a failure mode effects, diagnosis and analysis report, a safety manual, diagnostic libraries and more.
