FTM / Connectivity / Panasonic Industry — PAN1770 Bluetooth Low Energy Module
Panasonic Industry supplies the PAN1770 Bluetooth® Low Energy wireless module, a variant of the flagship PAN1780 module which enables the connection of an external antenna via a u.FL connector. The PAN1770 is particularly valuable for applications in which the product enclosure or operating conditions are hostile to RF transmissions, and in which an external antenna will provide superior connectivity.
The PAN1770 includes a microcontroller core and generous memory provision for running the host application as well as multiple radio protocols. Fully compliant with the standard Bluetooth 5.1 specifications, the PAN1770 also supports the IEEE 802.15.4 and NFC-A radio technologies. Offering Bluetooth mesh networking capability and connectivity to smartphones, the PAN1770 eliminates the need for a dedicated gateway for the control of applications such as smart lighting systems.
Featuring an Arm® Cortex®-M4F processor core, the PAN1770 provides 256 kbytes of RAM and 1 Mbyte of Flash memory. This means that it can easily be used in stand-alone mode, without an external processor. This reduces the complexity of the board design, saves space and minimizes system costs. The module provides up to 48 programmable GPIOs along with a rich set of interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, PWM, ADC, NFC, and USB 2.0.
Based on the Nordic Semiconductor nRF52840 single-chip radio controller, the PAN1770 offers a data-transfer rate of 2 Mbits/s via its built-in high-speed radio transceiver. Sensitivity is -95 dBm at 1 Mbit/s and -103 dBm at 125 kbits/s. Output power is configurable up to a maximum of 8 dBm.
The PAN1770 surface-mount package measures 15.6 mm x 8.7 mm x 2.1 mm. Its outline is the same as that of the Panasonic PAN1026A, PAN1780, and PAN1762 radio modules.
The PAN1770 modules may be ordered with the part number ENW89854C1KF, or the ENW89854C2KF with improved APPROTECT (access port protection), a new security feature developed by Nordic Semiconductor to protect against firmware readout and reverse engineering attacks.
