Miniature Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless module achieves high data rates

Module provides complete, ready-made implementation of latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies

Murata has introduced the Type 1XL, a high-performance wireless module which implements both the Wi-Fi® 6 and Bluetooth® networking protocols.

Drawing on proprietary Murata packaging and miniaturization technologies, the module achieves high data rates up to 1,200 Mbits/s and low power consumption in a compact form factor measuring 19.1 mm x 16.5 mm x 2.1 mm.

Based on an NXP Semiconductors 88W9098 chipset, the dual-band 2.4 GHz/5 GHz module complies with two standard sets of wireless specifications:

  • IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax for Wi-Fi networking. Supports 2×2 multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output (MU-MIMO) operation.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy v5.3

The Wi-Fi section of the module supports connectivity at data rates up to 1.4 times faster than conventional Wi-Fi-compatible devices. This section features a PCIe 3.0 interface, with optional support for SDIO 3.0.

The Bluetooth Low Energy section supports data transmission at speeds of up to 2 Mbits/s. It has a high-speed four-wire UART interface, with optional support for SDIO. A PCM interface handles audio data.

The Type 1XL module employs sophisticated algorithms and hardware features to enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth coexistence. A reference antenna design provides a template for FCC/IC approvals.

The module may be ordered with the part number LBEE5ZZ1XL.
