Low-power digital isolator offers reliable alternative to optocoupler

5 kV quad-channel MP27922 provides two forward and two reverse channels

The MP27922 four-channel digital isolator from Monolithic Power Systems provides a small, low-power and highly reliable alternative to the optocouplers which are traditionally used to provide isolation in electronics circuits.

The MP27922 provides 5 kVrms of isolation in accordance with UL 1577, and supports data transfers at a rate of up to 150 Mbits/s. Performance and low power consumption are guaranteed over a wide operating-temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. The device, which offers high immunity to ESD, surges and electrical fast transients, has safety-related certifications for UL 1577, VDE, CSA, and CQC.

The MP27922 digital isolator has two forward channels and two reverse channels. A Schmitt trigger input and isolated encoding/decoding are provided for high electromagnetic immunity in noisy environments. The selectable high/low fail-safe output scheme supports a fixed output even if the input signal power fails.

The MP27922 is part of a family of four-channel digital isolators which can have between two and four forward channels and between zero and two reverse channels, to give a total of four channels.

Supplied in a 16-lead wide-body SOIC package, the MP27922 has a footprint of 10.5 mm x 7.6 mm. The MP27922 option has a logic high output by default, and the MP27922-L has a logic low output.
