The OP830WSL is a NPN silicon photodarlington with a wide receiving angle, available in through hole TO-18 package.
This device is normally used in applications where light signal levels are low and more current gain is needed than is possible with phototransistors. The wide receiving angle provides relatively even reception over a large area.
